GermanFrom Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. Law is a system of rules, usually enforced through a set of institutions. Laws can shape or reflect politics, economics and society in numerous ways and serves as a primary social mediator of relations between people. Contract law regulates everything from buying a bus ticket to trading on derivatives markets. Property law defines rights and obligations related to the transfer and title of personal (often referred to as chattel) and real property. Trust law applies to assets held for investment and financial security, while tort law allows claims for compensation if a person's rights or property are harmed. If the harm is criminalised in a statute, criminal law offers means by which the state can prosecute the perpetrator. Constitutional law provides a framework for the creation of law, the protection of human rights and the election of political representatives. Administrative law is used to review the decisions of government agencies, while international law governs affairs between sovereign nation states in activities ranging from trade to environmental regulation or military action. Writing in 350 BC, the Greek philosopher Aristotle declared, "The rule of law is better than the rule of any individual." Legal systems elaborate rights and responsibilities in a variety of ways. A general distinction can be made between civil law jurisdictions, which codify their laws, and common law systems, where judge made law is not consolidated. In some countries, religion informs the law. Law provides a rich source of scholarly inquiry, into legal history, philosophy, economic analysis or sociology. Law also raises important and complex issues concerning equality, fairness and justice. "In its majestic equality", said the author Anatole France in 1894, "the law forbids rich and poor alike to sleep under bridges, beg in the streets and steal loaves of bread." In a typical democracy, the central institutions for interpreting and creating law are the three main branches of government, namely an impartial judiciary, a democratic legislature, and an accountable executive. To implement and enforce the law and provide services to the public, a government's bureaucracy, the military and police are vital. While all these organs of the state are creatures created and bound by law, an independent legal profession and a vibrant civil society inform and support their progress. From Wikipedia under the

Q. Is it legal for a church to distribute in their weekly bulletin at Sunday service a bulletin that has "paid political ad..." for/against a state amendment that is up for a vote? Is it legal for the same church to post Christian Coalition of America on their website along with ValuesVoter link? What are the church's obligations as a tax-exempt organization as far as distribution of paid political ads and assocations with politcal groups? Asked by doublewidemama - Sat Nov 8 21:44:41 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. If the church is claiming tax exempt status while doing these things, it may be breaking both federal law and one of the Commandments by stealing from American tax payers. Link below is to the IRS website documentation on this issue. It is very detailed, even mentioning that when a tax exempt organization establishes a web link to another website there are consequences if that linked site endorses a particular candidate, or favors one over another (Christian Coalition does). If you have any concerns, contact the IRS. Answered by eryops - Sat Nov 8 22:27:54 2008 How is it legal to sell a 'sex tape' without the consent of both parties?
Q. With a new 'sex tape' being released each week (it seems) by random celebrities I'm always so confused as to how it's legal for it to be sold to a production company. If both parties are not consenting how is it legal for the company to sell it? Or is it a case where on party pretends to be upset but they both are consenting to release it? Thanks! Asked by Sarah Sarcasm - Mon Aug 23 09:52:57 2010 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments A. Making the tape probably falls under state laws, like when a journalist wants to record a phone call secretly or something. Some states require both parties to be aware, and some don't. Once the tape is made, I kinda figure that most "celebrities" just go for the cash since if they don't it can end up on Youtube anyway and legal or not, there's not a lot of recourse unless you can definitively prove who put it there.
